Your wedding day is without doubt a very special day in anyone"s life, but it can also often be one of the most expensive. For any bride perhaps the most important thing on the shopping list will be the bridal gown and with an increasing number of good quality but fairly cheap wedding dresses on the market nowadays you can have the dress of your dreams without spending a fortune. For a significiant number of people a wedding dress should be a traditional full length white gown, which symbolizes the bride�s purity of heart and innocence, complete with veil and train originally brough to popularity by Queen Victoria who broke away from the royal custom of marrying in silver and chose a white dress for her marriage to Prince Albert. This started a craze which continues today with a lot of brides choosing white or a variation of white like cream, eggshell or ivory. Now however we are witnessing two major shifts when it comes to weddings. The first is a return to pre-Victorian days when brides married in simple dresses of almost any color which took their fancy, apart from black which was worn for mourning and red which was reserved for "a lady of the night". This also means generally abandoning the veil, which is understood to symbolize virginity, and the train which is a trapping of royal weddings and which emulates the peacock, which was historically viewed as a royal bird. The second is a move away from the church wedding towards weddings held in a wide variety of quite diverse venues, including the now popular beach wedding. As a consequence not only do brides now have a much wider choice of color for their bridal dress but, more importantly, doing away with the veil and train and the requirement for a full length dress now means that brides can make their selection from a range of far more simple bridal gowns. For those on a tight budget this is excellent news because informal bridal gowns are also considerably less expensive than the full traditional white wedding outfit. Another important point here is that the move away from the full white wedding gown also means that it is no longer necessary to purchase your dress from a specialist bridal outfitter who, not surprisingly, will charge you a premium simply for the service which is provided or for the brand or name which you are purchasing. It is a bit like a pair of training shoes � you can purchase two almost identical pairs of shoes and pay seven times more for one pair than for the other simply because of its brand name. There has certainly never been a better time to shop for a bridal gown and the choice available nowadays in terms of style, color and supplier is huge. It is now fairly easy to find reasonably cheap wedding gowns and still end up looking like a million dollars in the dress of your dreams.
